Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways of making money online. In fact, most of the top internet marketers in the world get most of their cash through affiliate marketing. Apart from being lucrative, it is also a great way of earning passive income. As opposed to doing freelance work for clients, affiliate marketing just involves setting up, marketing then seeing growing profits without much effort.

Affiliate marketing works perfectly in Kenya. There are two types of affiliate marketing programs that you can join. These include:

1. Affiliate marketing networks
2. Stand-alone affiliate programs

1. Affiliate Marketing Networks

Affiliate marketing networks are brands or websites which act as intermediates between affiliates (promoters or publishers) and merchants (companies looking for affiliates). Therefore, you will find many programs in one affiliate networks, each with its own commission structure.

The challenge with most affiliate networks is that they tend to give low commissions. Some go to the tune of less than 10% per referral or even $1 per referral. However, if you do proper research, you can still get products that give great commissions. Therefore, when looking for the best program in a network, make sure you go for the ones with reasonable commissions. In a network like JVZoo, you can even get commissions of 50% and above.

Some of the best-known affiliate networks that work in Kenya include:

• CJ.com
• ShareASale.com
• PayDotCom.com
• LinkConnector.com
• JVZoo.com

In these affiliate networks, all you need to do is sign up, search for products in your niche, then choose to promote them. Some products may require some form of application first before you are allowed to promote their products.

Another important point to note about these networks is the fact that they all have their systems of payment. In short, you will not just promote a product, get $20 commission and withdraw immediately. They all have a threshold for withdrawal. For example, CJ requires you to earn at least $50 in commissions for you to be able to withdraw your cash.

2. Stand-alone Affiliate Products

These are products that have their own affiliate programs; therefore they are not part of any network. Here, you simply go to the affiliates page of the product, get your links and start promoting.

The good thing about such products is the fact that they usually have very high commissions, probably because they are not sharing their profits with any third-parties. They are also relatively easy to promote and some even have extra features, for example, they may give you more banners and even sample blog posts and pre-written emails.

Some of the best-known stand-alone affiliate products include:

• HostGator (Web hosting)
• BlueHost (Web hosting)
• NameCheap (Domain names)
• Freelancer (Freelancing)
• iWriter (Freelance writing)
• Payoneer (Mastercard)
• Netfirms (Web hosting and domain names)
• Amazon (Online shopping)
• Hubpages (Article writing)

Joining these programs is usually free, even if you don’t use their products. There are some though that will require you to use their products before becoming an affiliate such as Payoneer.com.

Just like in affiliate networks, it is always great to check out the terms and conditions first. For example, HostGator gives a minimum of $50 per referral. However, to withdraw you need to have at least $100 in commissions. Therefore, if you successfully refer one person, you will not receive your money till you refer another. You also have to wait for at least 2 months to receive your cash.

With a great blog or email marketing campaign, you can easily make good cash through affiliate marketing. There are many Kenyans who are already boasting great commissions per week through the programs above; there is no reason for you not to be one of them.

Yes I have made money especially from platforms like Amazon, Hubpages and Bluehost. Hubpages is actually quite the easiest to start with as all you need to do is start writing and then get to earn money based on your traffic.

CJ is basically an affiliate networking site. They have a huge list of sellers and affiliates which they connect to each other. You just sign up and choose a merchant to promote and then be able to get your affiliate code from them.
