When it comes to affiliate marketers, there are of 2 kinds - Those who have used the product/service they promote and those who have not used it.

If you are getting into making money as an affiliate marketer, one of the things that can help your career is if you actually buy products or services you're promoting.
At times, there is no better affiliate than the one that actually used the merchant's product and so can talk from experience.

I'm not saying that if you are promoting 100 products and services that you should buy all of them, but what I'm saying is that if you can, then you should buy them, at least a sample and then you'd be able to do a better promotion of the item.

Personally, I've tried promoting a lot of stuff as an affiliate for several merchants but what I've noticed is that it's only those products and services that I've personally bought and used that I'm doing well at and getting the most referrals. For instance, I'm using web hosting sites like Bluehost and so from experience, I can actually start a full blog on web hosting with Bluehost and promote their plans based on your own person experience. It would be much easier for me to start writing or just speaking about them up to an hour or so since I would be talking from experience.

Nowadays, there are a growing number of affiliate bloggers who pre-order gadgets and get them almost as soon as they are released just to have an edge over their competition and still make a lot of money from sales they would refer.

I've also bought some stuff at Amazon such as the Kindle Fire hd and some apps like the camera app and so I've been able to get a lot of referrals to their app store since I was able to review their apps from personal experience, at least for the one's I've personally used.

If you are a phone or gadget affiliate, then you can do better if you try out the gadget either by buying them first, using it and then probably reselling it to others when you no longer have need of it. When you have used a product like that, you will have much more knowledge about it and be able to recommend it.

If you would rather not buy items that you are affiliated to, you can also try learning from people who are actually using them and try to read through their reviews. There are a lot of products and services people have reviewed online based on their personal experience and you can also learn from that without actually buying them. You may also do a deep research about the product before promoting it.

When people search for products or services online, they would be willing to ask a lot of questions before actually buying into it. They'd find it easier to trust people who have an inside information about a product or service. If you have a blog or review site, it could be helpful it you also allow comments and be able to respond to it effectively from a sound knowledge. People are more likely to buy through people who have a good knowledge of what they are promoting.

The bottom line is, if you want to be successful in promoting any item or service as an affiliate, try to get to know more about it and present it to people from a more confident level. If you can afford to, buy it. Don't just recommend it, answer any questions even before they ask them and provide potential customers with a deeper insight into what you are promoting.
